Heavy Diesel Mechanic

SUMMARY

The Heavy Diesel Mechanic will perform truck repair and maintenance work in accordance with factory and industry standards, run diagnostics on vehicles and work closely with other team members to meet company goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects in company owned equipment.
  • Perform road tests to diagnose needed repairs and to test completed repairs.
  • Perform complete overhauls on hydraulic air brake systems, repair and adjust air and hydraulic brakes.
  • Perform complete overhauls in transmissions, differentials, and clutch systems.
  • Tune, repair, and rebuild diesel engines; disassemble motors and repair or replace parts.
  • Service and maintain fuel and cooling systems.
  • Operate welding equipment to repair and fabricate parts.
  • Repair electrical systems.
  • Operate electronic testing equipment and other hand and power tools.
  • Communicate with parts manager to obtain needed parts for job.
  • Maintain records of repairs, parts used.
  • Prepare and maintain records of work orders.
  • Carry out routine engine service including oil changes and filter changes.
  • Determine if work is warranty or company's responsibility.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as Class 8 Diesel Mechanic.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations

Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B with no restrictions on Air Brakes (L restriction), OR must acquire a CDL License with no restrictions on Air Brakes within 180 days of hire as a condition of employment.

  • Familiar with windows operating system
  • Able to use vendor software to connect to vehicles

English (reading, writing, verbal)

 

Mathematical Skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Third-party degree or certification from accredited Diesel Mechanic program

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations

  • CDL Class A License with air brake endorsement

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.  The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision. May require physical effort associated with using the computer to access information, or occasional standing, walking, lifting needed to carry out everyday activities.  Travel may be required for this role domestically.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
